never coming down. the fall could last a lifetime. things were cut and dry. you'd lift me up for life. i played my part. a bond lost in the sand of passing time, a howl in the night. a stone's throw. water under a bridge for a wading passerby and drowning the town fool. gallows for us, red paving the road. hanging up to dry. i don't recall my crime.
but i remember the rope. i remember the white hot heat.
thieves speaking in code, secret between tongue and teeth.

what if everyone sunk at once and there was no one left to tell you off? i make lists, i clench fists, i have fits, i fit the rules i follow. i can't stand lists of demands. i swear by the seat of my bravado.
what if everyone sunk at once and there was no one with a righteous cause? i fear man, i'm near them. i save face in case of old world violence. i bind ties, i bide time, i bite my tongue to taste the silence and there was no one left to tell me off.

hear the sound of the crowd! your speakers crack to the tune. some people are afraid of the sum. an array of life bundled in our disarray. we've weighed and spent the cost. are you still narrow in your worldview to spite something you never ever really knew? everybody pays for something we can't afford to lose. we've got song, we've got dance, we're tired of the routine romance. there's a fire in the street. handshaking, bread breaking. tear down your corporation.
your ego is a primitive fear. you romanticize fiction. you've got your ducks in a row. who's gonna watch your back?
this is within my cognition. i gasp or grasp for the weapon of choice. i choose to make a fist. our chants ring out between the smoke. i grab, i push or pull. one chance, the solution: they can't arrest us all. remake or break the status quo. in the unrest of civilization our epilogue unfolds.

i was told you were already home and nobody knows what to think. i was told you were out on your own and then you came back for a drink. oh no, you known for your antics locked up in the barnyard with me. i was told that no one could love you and never could hold you but me.
one night in november, i couldn't remember the day that we met. i knew it was over. wind in the crack of the window howled. the wail of the night made a ghost out of me. heavy breathing and heaving my head. carried the thought of me dapper in red. i awoke on the floor of the barn. the hay and the dirt and a crow for alarm. never too careful, but i prepared for the call of the knife, the cut of a lifetime. the moon in the night, the light of the dark eye.
i was told you were already home and no one could save you. it's never too late for a last minute vow. a candle that burns and the wax never dries. i believe in the look that i see in your eye.

two cherubs helpless in the darkness. one carves on and on. blood thicker than water. my baby sleeps with all of the lights on so when i wake up i know where we are. my love in awe, gaunt, and haunted. i think no more and dream til it's over. i wake an ugly side of myself. forgetting trust, forgoing harm.
my cut can't hurt you, my blood evokes me to see this thing through, but the thought provokes me.
my love is pleasant to her specter. on my pale horse, a gift that i gave her, rides for the city with a coffin. all dressed up with a grin inside.
